During the mid-twentieth century, 8mm film dominated as the format for recording home movies. It became an extremely popular consumer product through the 1970s. For most brands, the film's sensitivity to light was quite low, prompting film companies to produce large light projectors attachable to the camera. However, the early prototypes of these projectors were uncomfortable for subjects in front of the camera. The intense light caused everyone to frown or even close their eyes.
