Portraits of Absence was a collaboration between group of filmmakers, animators, and photography students during the second year of my undergraduate course at Manchester school of art. Our goal was to raise awareness about the rising number of homelessness in the city of Manchester. Since early 2010 Manchester city council decided to evict homeless people from abandoned places which caused a sharp increase in the mortality rate of homeless from 1,382 deaths per 100,000 to 1,875 deaths per 100,000.
With the help of an animation, we tried to re-create the shadow of those who once lived in these abandoned places and maybe even consider it their "Home".
